COLD TIRES, COLD STREETS

So I'm the new safety officer. What does that mean exactly? How does one person get and hold the attention of many others? Does anyone actually know what safety is? What does it mean to you?

To me, it means keeping people aware of things they probably already know, but giving good, practical reminders. The purpose is to keep reminding that there is a wolf in the woods, which we know, and to not go to the outhouse without your weapon. Otherwise, you might get caught with your pants down, so to speak.

So here is a technical definition. "Safety is the state of being "safe", the condition of being protected from harm or other danger. Safety can also refer to the control of recognized hazards in order to achieve an acceptable level of risk".

That will be my goal moving forward and it requires your interest. Your own personal preservation and well being are at stake. In order for it to work, it will take a minimal amount of attention on your part. After all, I can remind you to take your weapon to the outhouse when you go, and you know why. You can choose to leave it behind for whatever reason and should you get caught with your knickers down, well, it was preventable.

So, here's to being safe. We always tell one another to "stay safe". Now you are thinking about it.

Stay safe and remember the winter rule: COLD TIRES, COLD STREET.
